How the IoT Smart Parking Using RFID With Android App works
- 12 V power adapter / step-down transformer supplies the circuit; a regulator gives the controller and sensors a steady 5 V.
- The IR obstacle sensor module detects an object or line in front of it by reflected infrared light.
- The NodeMCU ESP8266 Wi-Fi board connects the system to Wi-Fi so readings can be pushed to an IoT dashboard and commands received from a phone.
- The RFID reader with tags reads the unique ID of an RFID card or tag held near it so the system can identify the user or item.

E&TC / ECE viva questions on this project
What is the aim of the IoT Smart Parking Using RFID With Android App project?
A smart parking system with RFID entry and an Android app. Users see available slots on the app, and entry is allowed only when their RFID card has enough balance.
Explain the working of your project in short.
12 V power adapter / step-down transformer supplies the circuit; a regulator gives the controller and sensors a steady 5 V. The IR obstacle sensor module detects an object or line in front of it by reflected infrared light. The NodeMCU ESP8266 Wi-Fi board connects the system to Wi-Fi so readings can be pushed to an IoT dashboard and commands received from a phone. The RFID reader with tags reads the unique ID of an RFID card or tag held near it so the system can identify the user or item.
What is NodeMCU and how does it connect to the internet?
NodeMCU is a development board built on the ESP8266 Wi-Fi chip. It joins a Wi-Fi network using the SSID and password in the code and sends data over HTTP or MQTT to a cloud server.
How does an IR obstacle sensor work?
An IR LED emits light and a photodiode receives the reflection. When an object is close, more light is reflected and the comparator (LM393) switches the output.
How does RFID work?
The reader produces a 13.56 MHz (or 125 kHz) field that powers the passive tag through induction. The tag replies with its stored unique ID, which the controller compares with its list of authorised IDs.
How is 230 V AC converted to 5 V DC for the circuit?
A transformer steps down the voltage, a bridge rectifier converts AC to pulsating DC, a capacitor smooths it and a 7805 regulator gives a steady 5 V.
Explain the block diagram of your project.
The input section senses the real-world quantity, the NodeMCU ESP8266 Wi-Fi board processes it according to the program, and the output section acts locally and sends the data or alert wirelessly. The power supply section feeds every block.
Which communication protocols are used between the modules?
UART (serial) for the GSM, GPS, Bluetooth or fingerprint modules and SPI for the RFID reader or radio module. Each protocol was chosen because the module supports it and it uses the fewest pins.
What is the operating voltage of the circuit?
The controller and most sensors work at 5 V (ESP boards and some modules at 3.3 V). A 12 V adapter powers the board, and a regulator steps it down. Motors and relays get their own supply line so they do not reset the controller.
