ITR in K-scheme at a glance

Architecture, interior, printing, textile and some other programmes follow a 16-week internship in the sixth semester instead. Check your programme on the K-scheme branch pages.

Chapter order for the ITR report

This is the outline most MSBTE institutes follow. Your institute may rename or merge chapters, so match the copy your mentor gives you.

1. Title page, institute certificate and industry (completion) certificate
2. Acknowledgement, abstract and index
3. Chapter 1: Organisational structure of the industry and general layout
4. Chapter 2: Introduction of the industry: type of products, services and history
5. Chapter 3: Major equipment, instruments, machines or software used in each section
6. Chapter 4: Processes followed: manufacturing or development process, planning and control
7. Chapter 5: Testing of hardware, software or raw material and quality assurance procedures
8. Chapter 6: Safety procedures followed and safety gear used
9. Chapter 7: Particulars of practical experience and the tasks or project you handled
10. Chapter 8: Special or challenging experiences during training
11. Conclusion, references, and annexures: daily diary, weekly reports, attendance and photos

Page setup most institutes accept

• A4 paper, printed on one side, spiral or hard bound as told by your department
• Times New Roman 12 pt for body text, 14 pt bold for headings, 1.5 line spacing
• Margins: 1.5 inch on the left for binding, 1 inch on the other sides
• Page numbers at the bottom centre, starting from Chapter 1
• Figures and tables numbered chapter-wise (Fig. 3.2, Table 4.1) with captions

Daily diary and weekly report

The daily diary is a dated log of what you did, which section you worked in, what you learnt and your supervisor's remark. The weekly report summarises the week in half a page and is signed by the industry supervisor and your institute mentor.

Fill the diary every day. Examiners compare the diary dates with your attendance sheet, and a diary written in one night is easy to spot.

How the ITR is assessed

Marks are split between continuous assessment by the industry supervisor and institute mentor during the training, and an end-of-term assessment based on the report, a presentation and oral questions. The exact split is printed in the MSBTE curriculum document for 315004.

Mistakes that cost marks

• Copying the company profile from the website instead of describing what you saw
• No photographs, layouts or flow charts of the actual section you worked in
• Weekly reports without the supervisor's signature and stamp
• Chapter 7 written in general terms with no specific task, tool or output
• Certificate dates that do not match the 12-week period

Submission checklist

• Industry completion certificate on letterhead with dates
• Institute certificate signed by mentor, HOD and principal
• All 12 weekly reports signed
• Daily diary complete for every working day
• Report printed in the institute's format, with index and page numbers
• PPT of 10 to 12 slides for the oral
• Soft copy PDF kept ready
