IEEE reference style examples
Cite in the text with square brackets in the order sources first appear: "as shown in [3]" or "[1], [4]–[6]". Tools like Zotero and Mendeley produce IEEE style automatically.

Figures, tables and equations
- Figures: caption below, "Fig. 1. Block diagram of the system."
- Tables: caption above, "TABLE I" in Roman numerals
- Equations: numbered on the right, (1), and referred to as "(1)" in text
- Use vector or 300 dpi images; text inside figures must be readable at column width
Common mistakes reviewers reject
- Changing the template's margins or fonts
- An abstract that only describes the problem, with no result
- Related work that lists papers without comparing them
- Results without a comparison to existing methods
- References that are incomplete, mixed in style or not cited in the text
- High similarity or text that reads as machine-generated
FAQs
How many pages is an IEEE conference paper?
Most IEEE conferences accept 4 to 6 pages in the two-column template, sometimes with extra pages for a fee. Check the call for papers.
Is the IEEE format the same as IEEE style?
The format is the page layout (two columns, fonts, margins); the style is how references and citations are written. Most engineering venues use both.
Can I use IEEE format for my black book?
Your university's black book has its own format. IEEE style is often accepted for the references chapter; ask your guide.
Can Project Buddyy format my paper in IEEE?
Yes. We guide the structure, help you write from your own project results, format it in the official template and check similarity; see research paper support.
